Works for me: Fun with Diapers

My cousin (in-law?) Katey gave me a starter kit for gDiapers during Spring Break, and I'm having so much fun using them! I had wanted to try the gDiapers (I'm a sucker for nifty packaging) but couldn't justify the cost/effort of changing our system. But with a FREE starter kit as a gift.....well, if I bought another starter kit that would make them half price, right? =) So, now I have green, blue, ivory, and red. Then I had to get the purple and brown because they are so darn cute. Then when the flushable inserts ran out, I discovered that they are rather pricey--$0.40 each! So, I invested in 18 cloth microfiber inserts from Bumgenius. They fit great in the g-diaper and so far are working wonderfully. Easier to use than a pre-fold and thinner/more absorbant. Plus, Abby was getting a painful rash with the cotton diapers. I also ordered these rice paper liners and Charlie's soap. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right?
Let me just say, the rice liners rock! It's a little time consuming to wrap them around the microfleece but they are soooooo worth it if she poops. And the most incredible, fabulous, amazing thing--they are washable (up to 3 times)! If it's a pee-only diaper, I just toss the whole rice paper wrapped microfiber insert in the diaper pail and wash like normal, then line dry. How can a flushable, biodegradable piece of paper be washable? Amazing but true.
I am enjoying the G-diaper/cloth system now that I have all the parts...but I do find it a bit time consuming to assemble everything, make sure there are enough clean parts, and take care of the dirty stuff. I bet that regular cloth diapers would be less tedious (but probably more expensive). Right now the novelty still outweighs the annoyance. And I just bought a camping wind-up clothesline for the laundry room--it makes me smile to hang up the liners with the wood clothespins. It's the little things, right?
More fun stuff back at Rocks in my Dryer.

We use gdiapers when out and about, too :) I prefer cloth, though. They are so much easier. We use AIOs mostly, now, because I got tired of stuffing pockets. How old is Abby now? I have a bunch of diapers that I could hand on down to her, if you are interested, because Tommy is potty trained now. Also. I have a whole roll of those liners that I will never use, that I could send you, too.
